Monte Amazónico Lodge – Day 1 Itinerary
Upon arrival at the airport or bus terminal, guests will be transferred to the Monte Amazónico Lodge office for registration and orientation.
Next, we head to the Captaincy Port, where we board a boat for a scenic one-hour journey along the Madre de Dios River to reach our lodge. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed with a refreshing fruit juice made from regional produce, followed by check-in and room assignments.
After lunch, we’ll visit the enchanting Monkey Island, located just across the river from the lodge. This natural sanctuary is home to several monkey species, including playful capuchin families, offering a delightful wildlife encounter before returning to the lodge.
In the evening, we embark on a night excursion in search of white caimans, often spotted resting on sandbanks along the river. Guests should bring a flashlight for this adventure. With a bit of luck, we may also encounter the capybara, the world’s largest rodent, which can weigh up to 60 kilograms.
We return to the lodge for dinner and overnight rest, surrounded by the peaceful sounds of the Amazon rainforest.
ECO JUNGLE TOUR 2DAYS/1NGHT (DAY 2)
Day 2 – Sandoval Lake Adventure & Return to the City
After breakfast, we’ll embark on a 3-kilometer walk through the lush tropical rainforest, heading toward Sandoval Lake, one of the largest and most biodiverse bodies of water within the Tambopata National Reserve—and home to piranhas.
Upon arrival, we’ll board a paddle boat to explore the lake’s tranquil waters, where guests can observe a stunning variety of wildlife, including birds and monkeys such as the hoatzin (shansho), cormorants, jacanas, herons, vultures, howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, black capuchins, tamarins, and even sloths.
With a bit of luck, we may encounter a family of giant river otters, nearly 2 meters long, currently endangered. The lake is also known for hosting some of the largest caimans ever recorded—over 4 meters in length.
We return to the lodge to enjoy a typical regional lunch, followed by an afternoon transfer back to the city and drop-off at the airport.

The hike to Vinicunca takes 1 to 2 hours, depending on physical condition, as the altitude reaches over 5,000 meters (16,400 ft). Visitors can also rent horses from locals if needed. Upon arrival, travelers admire the breathtaking multicolored mountain landscape, surrounded by the Ausangate Glacier. We begin by picking up guests from their hotel at 2:00 PM, then depart aboard a comfortable tourist bus toward the Sillustani Archaeological Complex. The journey from Puno to Sillustani takes approximately 45 minutes, offering scenic views of the high Andean plateau.
Located on the shores of the serene Umayo Lagoon, Sillustani is renowned for its chullpas—impressive circular stone towers built to house the funerary remains of the most prominent leaders of the ancient Collao civilizations. Some of these towers reach up to 12 meters in height, and are uniquely designed with a narrower base than their top, showcasing remarkable pre-Incan engineering.
After exploring the site and learning about its historical and cultural significance, we return to Puno, arriving around 5:30 PM. Guests are then transferred back to their respective hotels, concluding this enriching half-day excursion.
