This tour provides insight on Dar es Salaam’s rich history and daily lives of people living in Tanzania. Your driver will take you through the city center and towards MnaziMmojaPark where you will see a replica of the Uhuru Torch Monument. The original one was erected on Mt. Kilimanjaro to commemorate freedom from colonialism that came with independence. Other famous landmarks you will spot along the way include the German-built Azania Front Lutheran Church, St. Joseph’s Cathedral , Kivukoni Fish Market, and the famed Coco Beach.

Your sightseeing drive will also have you visiting the Village Museum, TingaTinga Market, the Mwenge Carvings Market and the National Museum where you will be able to see historical and archaeological items, among them Louis and Mary Leakey’s findings from Olduvai Gorge. These human fossils displayed in the Half of Man include the skull of the so-called Nutcracker Man. There is also a collection of tribal ornaments, headdresses, and traditional musical instruments collected from various regions in Tanzania. Note:Guests must be aware that the museum guides are the best available. The museums are not air conditioned. Expect the weather to be hot and humid. The order of the sites may vary depending on traffic. Some of the sites are closed on Sundays, Saturdays and during public holidays. The tour starts and ends in Dar es Salaam city center.

At 9:00 AM, depart from Dar es Salaam city center to Bagamoyo. Bagamoyo has played various historical roles in Tanzania. Apart from being a slave and ivory port, it was also the capital of German East Africa from the late 19th century until the end of World War I.  Explorers such as Burton, Speke, Grant, Livingstone and Stanley all passed through this town. The name Bagamoyo comes from the Swahili words “bwagamoyo”, meaning “to throw down your heart”, a despair expressed by people who were captured as slaves, knowing that they faced an uncertain future. On arrival, visit the Kaole Ruins, ruins of the Shirazi trade town (13th-17th century), Old ferry on the mighty Wami River. Lunch will be served at a restaurant in Bagamoyo extra cost.

(Visit the Bagamoyo School of Arts for aNgoma(traditional dance) session may be arranged upon prior notice. Extra cost applies). The tour ends in Dar es Salaam city centre around 5:30 PM.

Cultural visit

This is a full day trip that will give you a great opportunity to visit different parts of the island andexperience real insight of Zanzibari’s cultural evolution, history, activities, behavior, cuisine, arts, beliefand other product of human works and thought. You will get a chance to experience how local dishes are cooked using various kinds of spices andcoconut milk that will give you a superb flavour and taste.

This tour will also include a visit to:

  • Local fish market where fresh fish is being auctioned and sold.
  • Traditional dhow’s construction site.
  • A typical local Zanzibari village where you will see daily activities undertaken by the villagers.
  • The natural turtle aquarium.
  • One of the local schools.

After breakfast we will drive you to FumbaVillage to the South-West of Zanzibar (25 minutes drive from theStoneTown) where you will board a dhow with other guests to experience the beautiful MinaiBayConservation Area and enjoy the tranquility of cruising by sail in one of the traditional hand built woodendhows. Get a chance to see the dolphins, swim at one of the pristine sandbanks, visit the islets andsnorkel at the coral reefs.The Safari Blue trip includes the use of snorkeling equipment with guides and instructors, ice cold sodas,mineral water and beer. You will also enjoy a legendary sea food barbeque which includes fish, calamari& slipper lobster served hot from the grill. Seasonal fresh fruits, halua& coffee will also be served.During the trip you will get a chance to join the crew on a thrilling ride in a ngalawa – a local outriggercanoe carved from a single mango tree. When the tide is high you will also explore the mangrovelagoon hidden inside Kwale island, where you will get a chance to swim in this lagoon.We round the day off by returning to Fumba by a traditional lateen sail where your vehicle will be waitingto take you back to your hotel.It is advisable to take swim wear, towel, water resistant bag (for camera and other valuables), sunscreenand a hat.
